Mrs. Nettles' Second Grade Class

For language arts, students will continue to study fiction with an emphasis on making inferences. Students will use their five senses to create details in their narrative stories and will review correctly using nouns and pronouns in their writing. Our word study skill for the week is consonant digraphs.

Our math focus for this week is place value (numbers 0-120). We will learn about word form, standard form, expanded form, and base ten form. The home connection for the unit went home in Friday folders last week. Please see the Guided Math Handout for suggestions on how to support your child at home. It has great ways for your child to practice and extend what we are doing at school.

For science, students will study classifying matter. The key vocabulary for this unit is matter, shape, mass, texture, and physical properties. Finally, for social studies we will learn about Monuments and symbols. The symbols we will learn about are the U.S. Capitol Building, White House, U.S. Supreme Court, Statue of Liberty, Bald Eagle, U.S. Flag, and Uncle Sam.

If you are a dad and would like to volunteer for our Watch DOGS program please plan on attending the kickoff for more information. You can sign up to attend using the link below.

Dear Father and Father-Figures, On Thursday, September 21 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. we will be kicking off our annual Watch D.O.G.S. Pizza Night at Snyder. We will meet in the cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. for FREE pizza and drinks. A short presentation will begin at 6:30 about our WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) Program. WATCH D.O.G.S is an innovative program being used by schools across America which helps students to be positively impacted by the committed involvement of fathers and father-figures in their student’s life. Our goal is to have you spend at least one day this year at Snyder to be a positive male role model influence. Dads, granddads, uncles, step-dads and adult brothers . . . this is your chance to have a night out alone in a fun atmosphere and make a difference in a child’s life. Please sign up by Wednesday, September 20 so that I have an accurate count for the pizza.
